| Description |
DDH (Double Dry Hopped) indicates that the brewer has added hops in two phases after primary fermentation:
-
First dry hop → main aromatic extract
-
Second dry hop → reinforces the aromatic intensity, can add complexity and perceived volume
-
Objective: to maximize the essential oils and volatile compounds of the hops without increasing the bitterness
-
Variations: some beers can even be TDH (Triple Dry Hopped) for an even more powerful profile
DDH is particularly common in NEIPAs and modern IPAs, where the aroma is the central point of the style. |
